New Born Update

28May20

So I'm so dumb I could be twins. The night before last I heard someone meowing at the door. I opened it to find young mother nursing and her brother hanging around. She abandoned her kittens and ran inside. The brother came inside. I put the brother out, then ran for the mother and as I was putting her out the brother ran back inside. We went back and forth like this until I gave up and just left the door open and went back to watching TV.

Big mistake.

After a bit, I went back to the cats and got them both out. By and by, I heard a kitten peeping. Knowing mom was outside I didn't think too much of it. I thought maybe she went out in the yard to use the bathroom or something. The rest of the evening we heard an occasional peeping then it would stop. I even poked my head outside and saw mom nursing.

Yet at bedtime, the peeping continued. David said the peeping was coming from in the extra bedroom. Sure enough, I heard it too and was able to establish mama had brought the orange kitten and placed it in an alcove where I keep the sheets. I tried to find it but realized the only way to get it would be to pull out all the sheets.

I gave up. Opened the door and mama strutted in and found her orange baby. I took the black one and put it with mama. The cat litter box is in the room, so I added food and water and went to bed.

The situation seems to be working. At least our guy isn't afraid to come in and out of the apartment.  Not sure if he's figured out she's living in the spare bedroom. I keep her in with the door closed at night and when our guy is up and awake. But he has seen her wandering about and hasn't thrown a hissy fit. Not sure what he's going to do when he learns kittens are hidden away in the bedroom.

I'm not sure what we're going to do when they start running around.
