Early Morning Drama
24Sept18
Every so often -- more than I like to admit -- I have one of those nights. I was snoring by 9:30pm at least an hour before my bedtime, and woke up wide awake around 12:30.
Tired of flipping/flopping in bed and unable to go back to sleep, I got up and listened to scary stories on YouTube. For some reason scary stories have a sleep-inducing effect. I think it's the voice of the readers that sort of drone on and make me drowsy. After an hour or so I tried to go back to bed. Nothing. Got up and heard GG drinking water in the kitchen. He was drinking water from a pan I had soaking. I turned on the faucet for him. I figured he'd want to go outside, but no. Around 3am I went back to bed and David was getting up. He wakes up for about an hour every morning around 3 and goes and works on his computer.
When he came back to bed, I was still wide awake. We were talking and GG meows to go outside. Basically, GG is David's cat. He comes inside and sits on David's desk wanting to be petted for about 30 minutes. When we're both on the couch, his preference is to snuggle up with David. I can only tempt GG over to me if I have the "mommy" blanket. That's a soft wool blanket he likes to knead his claws into. Half the time, even the mommy blanket will lure GG away from David.
So who has to get up and let GG out? Not David. GG is sharpening his claws as I open the door, still dark at 4am. Hiss, hiss, hiss. Sausage is in the hall. GG backs away as I close the door and I go back to bed. A few minutes later GG is meowing to go outside. I get up again and Sausage is still in the hall with her kittens.
I lure Sausage downstairs and wait and wait until GG has the courage to come one down and run past Sausage around the corner. Oy. I go back to bed and tell David I've been awake since midnight or so. I finally fall back to sleep and wake up at 9:30am.
Cats need to be fed. I need to take my morning walk, gather up some food, go down and feed everybody. Sausage is nowhere to be seen. Her kittens are with Loper. But when I return from the walk, Loper is gone and Sausage and Fluffy follow me upstairs. I think Loper is like the babysitter. I give Sausage, Fluffy, and David a sardine and keep the door open. Fluffy eats and leaves, but Sausage paws at the garbage waiting by the door. What a pest. I shoo her out and close the door.
