Because it is so hot, David has been leaving early, early in the morning for his walk while I'm still in bed. The cats have learned they can follow him upstairs and get fed earlier with better quality food. The thing is, one little noise in the hall and they're dashing down the stairs back outside.
GG has certain places he wants to be be in the house. Right now he is parking himself on the coffee table. We have the fan on in the mornings, which he likes, but when the AC is on -- well, he hates it. Rather than finding a new place to lie down, he wants to go outside. He has been coming in around the time I go to bed -- after the AC in the living room is off -- somewhere between 10 and midnight and staying until David gets up in the middle of night around 2 or 3. Then he comes back in for breakfast and will generally stay a few hours or until Fluffy comes up and pisses him off.
Last night he wouldn't come in at all. I was hoping he would stay longer in the morning. He looks so cute alternating between stretched out on the coffee table and curled up with his little paws tucked under his chin. He didn't even get mad when Fluffy came up this morning.
As much as GG hates the AC, Fluffy seems to like it. Yesterday she was up more than GG. The difference is, GG can settle in, relax and sleep. Fluffy will lick, and stay in one spot for five minutes max. I think if everyone in the house was very still, she might be able to settle for longer. That's a big maybe.
Then, there's poor Sausage and the intermittent Loper. Loper will never come up and she has another feeder than the measly handful of food I give her. She's gotten big and looks well-fed. Sausage may come up eventually. His (or her) hunger is so great that any fear of my touch turning it into ashes is gone. Sausage isn't really part of the colony although he looks a lot like Patch.
If Sausage ever feels part of the group, the little guy may just come up and see what all the fuss is about.
I haven't seen Calico for a long time. The last time I saw her, she tried to snuggle with me, but she didn't seem well. David saw her a day or two later and told me she didn't look so hot. They say cats have nine lives, I just hope my girl hasn't used hers up already.
