Feeding the Monsters

13May18

Last night GG wanted to sleep with me. He snuggled nicely while I read in bed. When I was ready for sleep, I needed to get up and use the bathroom before calling it a night. Well, that, of course, disturbed GG. He wanted a drink.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but GG will only drink water running from the sink. I'm guessing he learned to do this from the previous owner an old man who died. He likely was too stiff and frail to put down a bowl of fresh water and found it easier to turn on the faucet and let the cat have at it. I don't know, but how else would the cat know to drink out of the sink?

Somehow GG trained us to let him drink from the sink. Once we figured out what he wanted, he simply ignores the water in a bowl. The problem is, when he drinks out of the sink, we have to watch him until he's done. He will tell us when he wants a drink but won't let us know when he's finished and we just can't keep the water running for him although he would like that. Regardless, I'm dreading our next water bill.

At any rate, I had to get up and GG wanted a drink. So I had a stand around until he finished. Little things like that will kind of wire me up. GG wanted to eat and I thought he would go outside afterwards. I lay on the couch waiting for him to go out. Instead he jumped up to his new spot on David's sweater that can't be removed from the coffee because GG likes it so much.

I went to bed. I was about sound asleep when I hear this meowing at the door -- we keep it closed when the air conditioning is on which is most of the year. I figured GG wanted out. Well, he happened to wake me in this odd dream state and the room was so dark I was completely turned around and couldn't find the door. I inched my way along the bed careful not to run into the wall and when I reached what I thought was the door turned out to be the closet. I re-oriented myself and instead of wanting out the cat wanted in. He makes himself at home on my pillow. I flip and flop and finally drift off only to have him wake me again wanted to go outside for real this time.

Back in bed, I couldn't sleep. Instead of tossing and turning in bed, I decided to get up and watch some YouTube videos. I do a search for scary stories and listen to some of the new releases. For some reason those stories calm and relax me. It was now around 3am and I went back to bed and finally fell asleep only to be woken around six am by David and GG. He was talking and I fell asleep on him and he decided to take his walk. I thought I could fall back asleep while he was gone, but I couldn't. I started worrying about the feral cats and got up, dressed, and fed them.

Fluffy wasn't around. But Bag, Mask, and Patch were hungry. I fed them and went back upstairs. Remembering that Fluffy had disappeared that one time and reappeared all weak and damaged, I worry about her. So when David came back, I took down the garbage as an excuse to see if Fluffy was about. She was.

To my surprise, Black Scrap was eating up the rest of Bag's food. I call him Black Scrap because there's another cat that looks just like him except he has grey markings, so he is Grey Scrap. I don't know if Bag didn't really care for his breakfast and didn't eat it, or if Black Scrap came by like the bully wanting lunch money and said give me that. Loper was with Black Scrap. She's gotten big, but she reminds me of a lost teenager who got involved with the wrong crowd. Since I'm not keen on any Scrap encroaching on the guys' territory and Loper didn't seem to be starving, I didn't bring them any more food.

Fluffy came upstairs with me and mewed, mewed, mewed until she was ready to go outside.

  1. You had a very busy night! If I am disturbed during the night, I cannot hardly go back to sleep either. I never used to be that way, but as I aged, gotten worse. Glad you found Fluffy all safe and sound! I love when joey sleep with me. He is so big, almost like sleepy next to a person! Lol
