Sharing Tuna

30Aug17
Ever since I had the audacity to try and stroke Fluffy under the chin, she won’t let me touch her. This morning when I tried to give her a little pat, she swiped at me. I reached out to pet Bag and touched his tail. He gave me a look like, what’d you do that for?
Loudmouth aka the gentle giant was around when my husband took his walk, but gone by the time I went downstairs for the daily feeding. Patch wasn’t around either. I called for him, but he didn’t show. Put some food in his bowl anyway. Mask sniffed at her food and turned her nose at it – and they say beggars can’t be choosers.
When I left for the beach Patch greeted and wanted more food even though he hadn’t eaten everything in his bowl. He followed me almost to the bus stop, i.e. the edge of his territory and went no further.
That evening I opened a couple of cans of tuna to make a salad. I thought the cats might enjoy a bit of tuna and took down the mostly empty can of tuna. I was just going to leave the tuna by the door for a first come first serve thing but saw Interloper the white cat with a calico face and tail. Poor skinny thing, if anyone needed a tuna treat it was her. As I approached, Patch appeared around the corner, he didn’t want Interloper on his territory. They started snarling at each other, and I told them to stop. Totally indifferent to my scolding Patch stood on his rear legs and continued to snarl at Interloper who was now standing on her rear legs.
Probably not the wisest thing to do, interfere in feral cat fights, but I did anyway. They backed off. I gave everyone: Patch, Mask, and the Interloper a bit of tuna. Then went back upstairs and retrieved the cat food and gave the three a bit of dinner. Patch and Mask turned their nose up at the food, maybe I should go back to the other brand, but Interloper did not complain and was munching away while continually looking over her shoulder as I went back upstairs.
