Fluffy is a Tease
Sat 26Aug17
Yesterday the only cats available for feeding were Fluffy and the brats. Unlike the day before when Fluffy let me stroke her head, today there was no touching. Maybe, since Bag wasn’t around, Fluffy didn’t feel secure. Mostly whose full name is Mostly Black since the feline is completely black except for this tiny white dot on the tip of her tail, was lying in the bushes indifferent like maybe she was dead. She always lies there like that so I wasn’t worried.
The brats came around the corner wanting to be fed and once they had their bowls full, the new cat emerged. I’m not sure if I should name this guy or not. He’s a skinny thing, all white except for a calico face and tail. I’ve already named a bus stop cat Calico, so I’m not sure what descriptive name the call him. Skinny, maybe, but a lot of feral cats are skinny, and if the clan lets me start feeding him on a regular basis, he won’t be skinny for long. Anyway I fed Skinny and all the cats are happily eating. Skinny stopped eating and went along the sidewalk in the backyard, past Mostly and into the bushes. Patch wasn’t far behind, sniffing Skinny’s trail and was going to go after the interloper. Patch was going to follow Skinny into the bushes, but Mostly sprang into action and chased Patch back around the corner. I was surprised because Mostly is easily cowed by the other cats.
This morning, Fluffy greeted me at the foot of the stairs. Her man Bag was sleeping in the back yard. I fed them under the tree, and Fluffy let me pat her head and scratch behind the ears. I turned to feed the brats and Loudmouth appeared demanding first feeding. Took care of him over by the rose bush, then fed Patch and Mask. Mask, of course, attacked her brother and Patch tolerated the onslaught.
Loudmouth followed me to the stairs claiming because his food wasn’t in his usual spot he hadn’t been fed. I needed to freshen their water anyway, and Loudmouth’s meowing followed me all the way up the stairs and back down. Fluffy was ready to be petted again, and let me scratch behind the ear and suddenly got skittish and wouldn’t let me touch again. However, the little tease kept acting like she wanted more petting but kept an arm’s length away.
