Always Something

Right now Loudmouth is the alpha-cat without even trying. He’s bigger, louder, and more demanding. If Fluffy dares to go near his dish – well, there’s going to be trouble. Loudmouth may be the alpha male but Fluffy doesn’t like him. Bag, who I haven’t seen for days, is the love of Fluffy’s life. I have often seen them cuddling together, and Fluffy will run up and rub her cheek against him. In typical male fashion, Bag will ignore her affections and walk away. Hmm, some behaviors cross all species.
However, little Patch, who isn’t so little any more is making challenges to become the alpha male. He knows to leave Loudmouth alone, at least for now, so Patch is making moves on Fluffy’s bowl. Alpha-ness apparently is who eats first. Fluffy swiped at Patch for coming too close to her bowl. Her claws were out and she was serious. Instead of backing away, Patch came back for more his claws out and teeth bared. I used the food bag to shoo Patch off Fluffy. Since the worst thing in the world according to Patch is to be touched by a human, Patch hid behind the tree.
I fed Fluffy then walked with Patch and Mask to the side of the building where they are fed. The gardner had come yesterday and thrown away their food bowls. I told them not to worry, there were enough empty bowls in the back yard, I could still feed them without them having to wait for me to go all the way upstairs to get some. Once they had their bowls filled with food, they were happy. Patch is the alpha-male with his little sister and he eats first – even though she attacks him all the time and he just takes it.
